Dr. Sriram Narainswamy Iyer is an artist & Sanskritist based in Mumbai. Born into a family of artistes, he is a Bharatanatyam choreographer and Carnatic vocalist and has been actively propagating the cause of Bhāratiya-Saṃskṛti through Kalāsadan, a pioneer cultural institution founded by his late grandfather, Guru Shri Maṇi. Trained in Sanskrit under veterans such as late Prof. A R Kulkarni and Prof. Dr. Gauri Mahulikar, he holds a doctorate in Sanskrit from the University of Mumbai for his thesis titled - “Śrī Muttusvāmi-Dīkṣita-caritam - A critical study”. As a Sanskrit teacher he has been involved with several prestigious institutions such as the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai, The SIES College and the K J Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham, to name a few. His subjects of specialization and interest include Sanskrit literature, Vedānta, Itihāsa-Purāṇas, Saṅgīta-Nāṭya & the Dharma-śāstras.
He is also a Sanskrit composer and his works include operatic poems such as “Umā-Pariṇaya”, ‘Śrī Bhāgavata-Caritam”, “Śrī Śaṅkara-Digvijayam”, “Śrī Rāma Rājyam” etc., several classical compositions such as Varṇams, Śabdams and Kṛtis, as well as eulogistic verses on numerous deities composed on different occasions. His artistic creations represent a combination of his research experience and his undeterred commitment to Sanātana-dharma and its disambiguation. His articles have been published in many academic journals as well as spiritual magazines. He has participated in quite a few international conferences and has been delivering lectures on Hindu religion and culture at various academic and non-academic platforms.
