Ragu Kattinakere is a Software Development Manager at the IBM Laboratory Toronto. He sings for yakshagana (bhagavatike) and plays chande and maddale drums. One of the founders of Yakshamitra, the first full yakshagana theatre group outside India. He is also the editor of the book yakshagana shikshana-lakshana by India’s noted yakshagana theatre scholar Shri Hosthota Bhagavata. Teaches Kannada to children in Toronto. Active in Gamaka Association of North America. He is the original author of the article behind many Indians moving from the use of RIP to other Indian phrases like Om Shanti. Has written to add new ideas to concepts from shastras such as ‘geetanuvartane’, ‘scope of impact’ and ‘desi sangeeta and yakshagana’. He documents interviews of scholars on culture and yakshagana, researches on yakshagana and models of computation, writes poems in Kannada and does kaavyavaachana-vyakhyana. He is originally from the village of Kattinakere near Soraba in Karnataka (heart of the area known as Kuntala in ancient India).
