Dr. Uma Maheswari Shankar, is an Associate Professor, Principal & Head Department of Philosophy, SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, (Empowered Autonomous) Sion, West, Mumbai. She is recipient of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan Distinguished Academic Leadership Award 2023 and “Padma Shri Nimbalkar Yoga Mitra Award” January 2017.
She has supervised 12 PhD students and 5 MPhil students. Participated in a Summer Course on Religious Pluralism at Santa Barbara University, California, 2012. Invited to deliver a commemorating 4th International yoga day on Concept of Isvara In Yoga And Bhagawad Gita- A Philosophical Study organized by Indian Council of Cultural Affairs and Consulate General Office , New York, 2018.
She has more than twenty publications to her credit. She has co-edited ‘Vedanta in 21st century’ (2010), Edited and contributed an article in Indian Music – Cultural and Philosophical Perspectives, published by department of Philosophy and Sri Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Vidyalya. 2017. Few of her published articles include, Impact of Globalization on academia- Challenges, Solutions to Ponder & Practice (Indian way) in the e-journal at the 8th International Conference on Advances in Social Sciences (ICASS) Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul Turkey, Contribution of Tamil Culture, Language and People to Maharashtra’ in PHISPC Volume VI, Part 8 Perspectives on Maharashtra: cultural-intellectual contributions, “Immediacy of Knowledge Acquisition Pratyakshajnana and Aparokshajnana published in the book Perception, “Pramanas” published by ACPI (Association of Christian philosophers of India) Encyclopaedia of Philosophy.
She has organized an international conference on Indo-German Colloquium as well as National Conferences on Indian music: Philosophical and cultural perspectives, Sri Krishna in regional literature, and Revisiting Vedanta in the twenty-first century. She has conducted workshops on Yoga & stress management, Ethics and management, Values and Indigenous management. She has conducted two Exhibitions on Indian philosophy and Importance of Yoga.
