Sopara: An Ancient Port, Trade Center and a Teertha

Sopara finds itself mentioned as an important Teertha in almost all faiths of Indian origin. Brahmanical texts mention it as Parshuramtirtha. Buddhist text Divyavdana mentions it as the place where Buddha himself visited.

Monish Shah

Monish Shah has graduated as an engineer from University of Mumbai in Electronics and Telecommunication. His interest in the field of Archaeology and History made him pursue his masters in Indology from TMV, Pune. Apart from this, he has completed diplomas in Archaeology as well as Jainology, both from University of Mumbai. Professionally, he has worked in the field of Robotics and Embedded Systems and is currently working as a Paints manufacturing professional. Keeping his technical side as his mainstream, he grabs every opportunity to work in the field of his passion – Archaeology, History and Jainism. He has presented papers at the Mumbai University and BHU and has also completed his dissertation on Impact of Meditation on Human Personality. He is currently working on Sopara and some other works in Jainism.
